Taxi collectivo - private taxi - bus
There are several ways to travel around Cuba on a road trip. The most common are colectivo taxis (shared taxis), private taxis, and buses.
Aware that organizing travel can sometimes be complex on the island, we support our clients by offering assistance in organizing their transport from Viñales to their next destination.
Renting a car is also an option, but we advise against it due to fuel shortages and frequent vehicle breakdowns. Furthermore, it is by far the most expensive mode of transportation in Cuba!

Shared taxis (taxi colectivo)
In our opinion, the colectivo taxi is by far the best way to get around between cities in Cuba. It's an economical, practical, and ideal option for stress-free travel.
The shared taxi picks you up directly from your casa particular and drops you off in front of your next casa, without you having to walk or take an extra taxi.
It's also a very easy mode of transport to organize: your casa particular takes care of everything for you. Hosts always have reliable contacts and book your seat with the taxi agency. So you don't have to look for other travelers to share the ride with: the agency handles all of this.
Comfortable, efficient and accessible, the colectivo taxi remains for many travellers the ideal solution for discovering Cuba with ease.
Private taxis (taxi privado)
A private taxi is the most comfortable option for getting around between cities in Cuba. You travel in a vehicle just for you, which picks you up directly from your casa particular and drops you off at your next address.
More flexible than a shared taxi, it allows you to choose your own departure time and even plan stops along the way if you wish to visit a place or simply take a break.
The cost is higher than that of a shared taxi, but this option offers an excellent level of comfort and freedom. For travelers who want to get around with peace of mind, without time constraints and in the best conditions, it's a very good choice.
And it's still cheaper than renting a car — a solution we don't recommend in Cuba.
Viazul Bus
The Viazul bus is the most economical option for travelling between cities in Cuba, but it has several disadvantages that make it less convenient.
First, you must make your own way to the bus station, which can sometimes be quite a distance from your casa particular and incur additional costs. Upon arrival, the situation is similar: you will often need to take a taxi to reach your accommodation.
Bus journeys are also longer, as the vehicle makes several stops along the way. A trip that would take a few hours by car can therefore be much longer.
Finally, booking is less straightforward: you must purchase your tickets yourself on the Viazul website, as the casas particulares cannot make reservations for you. This therefore requires more organization and advance planning.
For all these reasons, even though the Viazul bus remains the most economical option, it is generally not the one we recommend to our travelers.
